Danielle King, Deputy Manager at Stanway Villa, has always worked in Health and Social Care. Since 2011, Danielle has supported people of all ages with different needs, having worked in Nursing and Dementia homes and her local hospital – however, her current role supporting adults is her favourite!
“I started working in the Health and Social Care sector in 2011, starting off in Nursing and Dementia homes before spending 5 years at the local hospital, firstly as a Specialist Physiotherapy Assistant and then as a Dementia and Delirium Practitioner.
“I really enjoyed the chaos and atmosphere of working in a hospital, but I missed working in Residential care and building in-depth, meaningful relationships with the people I supported as I had done previously.
“So in January 2021, I applied for and was offered the role of Therapeutic Support Worker in one of Salutem’s newly opened Children’s Residential Homes, but before I started there, coronavirus hit and I was asked to support colleagues in my local adult residential services for a few weeks first. I quickly realised how much I still loved working in adult care and was lucky enough to get the chance to interview for and be offered the Deputy Manager role at Stanway Villa in March 2021.
“I am surrounded by the most dedicated, committed, and caring team. They each go above and beyond every single day. Tina, the Home Manager is so supportive of us and helps us to progress and learn as much as we can. We are a team here and that’s why it works so well – we celebrate each other’s successes and are there for one another when times are trying. All the managers and their teams throughout the entire region and company are lovely and are always at the end of the phone for advice and support.
“No two days at Stanway Villa are ever the same and the people we support here bring a smile to our faces daily. They all have their own quirks, traits and personalities, from Susan’s karaoke Queen antics and her jokes, to Maureen’s cheeky giggle, and Luke’s unparalleled memory and intelligence. Supporting these individuals is a joy and a privilege. My favourite Salutem moment so far was at Christmas when our lovely Manager Tina convinced her husband to dress as Father Christmas and surprise the individuals we support at their Christmas party. Their faces were a picture, they loved that moment and being a part of it was so special to us. There hasn’t been a day here where they haven’t made me laugh, sometimes even to the point of laugh crying!
“I have worked for different companies, in different roles, but this role as Deputy Manager at Stanway Villa is definitely my favourite. It’s a move that I am so glad to have made.”
