“The people we support have had to overcome so many things in their lives, and they’ve supported me to believe in myself and given me the confidence to also conquer my own fears and anxieties.” 💪🤩

Maria Halshaw, Senior Support Worker at Warwick House, joined the Salutem family over four years ago as a Support Worker, and has progressed in her career through hands-on experiences and support from her team and the company.

“I’ve worked in care for over 16 years now (way to make me feel old!), and started my career in the industry after looking after a poorly relative, which gave me the initial passion and skills for care. Since then, I’ve worked in elderly homes, supported people with learning disabilities both at home and within the community, and have even helped people with Korsakoff Syndrome and brain injuries.

The main reason why I love coming into work at Warwick every day is because of the people we support, and the enthusiasm they have to enjoy and live their best lives. All of the people we support have had to overcome so many things in their lives, but they never let that stop them! Although I am their Support Worker, they’ve really supported me in return to believe in myself and given me the confidence to also conquer my own fears and anxieties.

Working with Salutem differs from previous places I’ve worked because there’s lots more support within the company, not only for the individuals in our care but all the staff too. Also, there’s more of a focus on each individuals we support’s unique needs and providing person-centred care, and we have more space and time to get to know all the people we support on a personal level and support them in the best ways we can. At Warwick, I’ve had more of a hands-on learning experience and been given the opportunities to get involved with all aspects of care which has helped me develop my skills and progress in my career.

Ultimately, I’m proud of and thankful to all of the team and company for always working hard to support people to live their best lives every day!”
